Sounds strange, but feels incredible! The downy fiber harvested from Mongolian yaks provides a unique mix of softness and durability. Yaks have different layers in their wool coats, much like goats. ULA + LIA only uses the finest, softest down layer that 1-3 year old yaks produce in the middle of bitter winters. The guard hairs that remain after the brushing process are separated from the downy ‘yak cashmere’ before being spun into yarn.

Due to their unique habitat of high elevations and bitterly cold temperatures, yak wool is very fine and soft, but also comprised of abnormally long and durable fibers. Like merino wool, yak wool is also finding its way into base layers due to its strength, warmth, and natural wicking properties.

100% Baby Yak Wool

Always procured from free-range animals raised by traditional herders in the Mongolian countryside.

I received my order last week and I couldn’t have been happier. I was surprised at how quickly the package arrived.
The yak fiber is exceptional! It is very clean and so very soft. The colour is rich and even throughout. I can’t wait to use it!

I am in awe of the beautifully milled fiber. My only concern is what to pair it with that will do it justice.

Cashmere Yarn - Dusty Rose Pink - DK

This yarn is amazing! All the ULA+LIA that I have purchased are amazing. The prices are good too, You can't buy 100% cashmere, or any of the other fibers, here in the States for the price you charge.

Just Lovely❤️

Originally ordered 1 skein of this color along with several other colors. When my order arrived & I looked over my yarns, I immediately knew I needed a Sweater Quantity oh this heavenly blue. I’m waiting for it to arrive and deciding which pattern to make with it! Thanks again Jon🥰👍

Thank you Margo! I love this color too... the marled affect with the cream mixed in gives it such a great depth.

Amazing yarn

The quality and color of this will with the addition of cashmere is even more remarkable for the price. The customer service is also astounding.

Thank you again Dana. I'm already thinking about the next color choices for the wool blends next year!

Beautiful yarn

The quality of this yarn and customer service is outstanding.

Thank you for all the years of support Dana!

Absolutely YUMMY!

This Cashmere yarn is so very soft and the Violet color is wonderful. Can hardly wait to make & wear a sweater with it 👍❤️

Thank you for the review Margo, I hope you enjoy knitting it up!

Next to skin luxurious feel

I just finished my sweater with your baby yak yarn that I picked up at my local yarn store and am so impressed. I just dont want to take it off! I love the rugged look yet soft feel of the yarn. I will order more.

The sweater looks great, thank you for the review and the picture! Glad to hear you're enjoying the yak wool.

I love this stuff.

When I get to it, this will be my fourth camel sweater. I am working on a burnt orange Morning Rituals by Andrea Mowry right now, the stitch definition is beautiful, and the yarn is so so practical and nice. My camel sweaters get the most wear out of my handmade wardrobe because it’s like wearing climate control. Is it too cold outside? Is the temperature going to change wildly throughout the day? Am I going to be enjoying time outside in the snow, and then coming inside to hang out by the fire? Camel sweater. It’s comfortable down to 25 degrees f outside, and up to 70 degrees without getting too cold or two hot, and the yarn is sturdy and doesn’t pill.

Thank you for the review Kate! I'm happy you are enjoying the beauty of the Mongolian wools and their properties!

Still working with it to make a scarf.

Thank you for leaving a review, I look forward to seeing how your scarf knits up!

It's beautiful, soft, and warm. I look forward to seeing how it spins.

Thank you for the review Ree, I hope you enjoy the spinning!

Beautifu! The subtle marl is exactly what I was hoping for. Easy to knit with and the low contrast marl creates the most amazing fabric.

I'm glad you like the color Debra, it's always a bit of a surprise to see how the marls come out!

Gorgeous color. What a beautiful job.

Thank you for the review Bri! I hope you enjoy knitting it up.

My entire shipment exceeded my expectations

I haven't started using any of the yarn or fiber I received (kickstarter and addons) but I was blown away by the saturated colors and softness of the spinning fiber. Note that if you think the yarn is not as soft as expected, it does contain residue of spinning oil, and should be washed to let it bloom and reveal it's true nature (this is covered in the FAQ).

Thank you Joan! The hot wash with soap does make a huuge difference in the final feel of the fiber. I'm considering ways to remove the oils with a different dyeing process in the future, but it might also change the saturation and evenness of the dyeing batches. Time to do some experimenting!

Such a wonderful & versatile color👍. And of course, it’s soooo soft!❤️

Thank you for the review and continued support Margo!

Thus color is really beautiful. It reminds me of a field of Black Eyed Susan's. The yarn is soft but little smooth when it arrives. It works up into a beautiful soft project.

I'm not much of a yellow fan myself, but by the end of the Kickstarter fulfillment it turned into my favorite color. Hope your project turns out awesome!

Best Socks Ever!!!

The wool socks from ULA+LIA are of very high quality with a luxurious feel. I order some every year and absolutely love them. So while I want to keep them to myself it’s only fair that everyone knows what an incredible gift they make even if it’s for yourself. Try them, you will love them!!

Thank you Lori! I've had some requests for our socks with a higher calf for more of a hiking application. Maybe we'll have to expand the offerings in the future!

I absolutely love everything I've bought from Ula+Lia over the years. Please don't judge my growing stash because I just can't resist. The colors, quality, and squishiness are irresistible. Customer service is top-notch as well. I've knitted multiple shawls, some fingerless mitts, a pair of socks, many hats, and a men's cardigan out of this yarn. Everything has turned out beautifully and so soft. My most recent purchase of the warm gray cashmere is going to have to be used for something very special. It's so gorgeous and soft.

Thank you for the continued support Cara! Although the warm gray and cream cashmere bases have the same fineness, there's something about the warm gray that makes it feel slightly more supple. The different area of the Gobi/breed of the goat may make the difference, I'm not sure! Or I could just be imagining it. Thank you again, I hope you find the right project for it!

Beautiful yarn

First bought Mongolian cashmere in a store in my area.
When visited website, discovered more options.

It’s beautiful: both fingering and DK. Some patterns will look gorgeous if you knit with fingering, better than DK. The feel is about the same.

This specific color is very pretty for anything: hats, headbands, gloves, mittens, sweater. Mostly knit for my grandchildren. Gloves and headband made for my daughter, she loves them. quality is much better than if you buy cashmere in a store, it will last much longer and you can fix it.

This online store offers all that some people might need, including myself.
Also very good yak and camel natural and undyed.

The hat looks great, thank you for sharing!

Handloomed Baby Yak Shawl
Adrianne Middleton
Toasty warm and amazingly light!

This shawl is perfect for those chilly nights when you need a toasty wrap. It weighs next to nothing, and is very soft. I ordered the dark brown, and it is a gorgeous color.

The yak wool items are lovely, I'm hoping to expand the finish items a bit more in the future. Thank you for the feedback!

Socks are warm and comfy

The socks are just what I was looking for. No polyester! Not scratchy. Thick but not bulky. Not binding. Warm and breathable, perfect for cooler weather and cold nights. I’d like a second paid but the size is sold out. Wonderful winter bed socks.

Happy to hear you like them! The color will be slightly different, but they will be back in stock and shipping once again early next week,

I LOVE this yarn! It is working up just as I'd hoped for a scarf for my brother. I do have to say, I had some trouble in beginning because I ordered one skein of dark charcoal and got dark chocolate, but I will be able to use it for something lovely and learned that I needed 2 skeins to complete the scarf. When I ordered those if the dark charcoal, it turned out to be perfect!

Hi Joan, I just saw your review here and didn't know about the skein mixup! I just refunded the skein sent in error, I'm sorry about that! But I'm happy it worked out OK in the end. Hopefully you can find something cozy to make with the yak wool skein!

I have 4 of these shawls

I live in central Fl where there are cool winter mornings. The baby yak shawl is such a lovely way to greet those winter dawns. I wrap it around my shoulders while making and drinking my first cup of coffee. It is warm and cozy. I bought my first three through kickstarter campaigns. When I missed it this year I went online to the website. The only negative I would say about these shawls is that they do not stand up to dog nails. Thus I needed to replace one color due to chihuahua dog nail holes that kept getting bigger. . I have found the shawl to be the perfect weight , in all ways, to use while traveling, especially when I want that bit of warmth on planes.

Made me wish I lived in a cold climate year round

The mittens are so soft. I believe they will be very warm. I am gifting them this Christmas but could not resist trying them on. They made me wish I lived some place with cold weather instead of Fl! They were shipped quickly.

Lovely color not soft yarn

This yarn has no loft that I expected from cashmere. It is composed of many threads and is firm bulky but not soft.
Very disappointed. I unraveled my knitting project.
Very expensive for what you get.

Hi Helen,

Sorry you weren't happy with the yarn, I processed a refund for you. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do!
