Just finished my second sweater with this yarn and am very happy. The color is deep, the fabric is soft and sturdy, and the whole knitting process was pure joy! My first sweater of this yarn shows some pilling, but it's not too bad. Will definitely get more in the future for more lovely projects!
I'm in love with this yarn. It's nice and soft and the color is rich and earthy. Can't wait to start my next project.
I have been buying yarn from ULA+LIA for several years. I prefer the yak yarn. It's warm, soft and not itchy, and a pleasure to knit with.
This is a great websitr to purchase yarn, they are very reputable. Their prices are fair and the quality of the yarn is excellent.
I love supporting Ula+Lia and the marvelous yarn, animals, herders, dyers, spinners and all who make this wonderful yarn. It is easy to knit, has a marvelous hand, works well with cables or lace. My favorite fabric from this is stockinette stitch—so smooth and touchable!! It’s probably the only way I’ll ever be able to touch a real yak!! Thank you Jon, et al!!😊
Thank you Mary Beth! Have fun with all the soft stuff!
Great product, responsible producer. Whats not to love?
Thank you Katherine!
Great quality yarn and shipped quickly!
Good to hear it got to you fast, have fun knitting it up!
I haven't had the chance to use this yet, but the color is just as I imagined it! I can't wait to use it! (will upgrade to 5 star if it works out as I expect it will)
I'm sure it will! Good luck finding the right project for it!
I knit myself a sweater several years ago with the chocolate brown yak yarn and I love that sweater. It is soft, warn and has very little pilling. Now I have several colors of the yak yarn and plan to knit myself a stranded yoke sweater.
Sounds like a great idea for a project, I hope all the colors come together as planned!
I expected soft but not THIS soft!
The spinning fiber is always a special kind of soft!
I 100% recommend this yarn! I loved that it was so light weight fingering without being a chainette structure . It’s perfect for scarves . You can knit 2 full Sophie scarves with 1 of these skeins (the large size too)! This color is a very deep hot pink that almost looks red, but it’s actually pink.
I researched several yarn options and finally landed on Ula + Lia, and it did not disappoint. I also noticed that it doesn’t seem to pill easily either, even after I blocked it.
I can’t wait to order more of their yarn in the future !
Thank you Olivia, the scarf looks awesome!
Just finished a sweater in fingering natural camel and it’s gorgeous- beautiful drape, soft, warm. The yarn was a pleasure to work with and represents excellent value. I used other natural color yarns (yak, cashmere, camel) from Ula + Lia as well as some stash yarns in a similar gauge and they are magical together. Also made a couple of hats to test things out!
The sweater is beautiful, thank you for sharing Ashley! Happy to hear you liked working with everything!
Lots of flakes of what I can only assume is dandruff in the fiber. I did expect better quality from such a premium luxury fiber.
Sorry to hear it didn't live up to your expecations. I've sent you an email to hopefully remedy the situation!
I've tried all of ULA+LIA bases. This one is the wooliest (well, it makes sense since it's the one with wool). It is soft with a wooly feel. I believe It would make a long-lasting garment since my swatch test didn't pill at all (and I'm vigorous with my testing). It would also be a great fingering weight to hold with another yarn like a mohair as it would add a nice drape to the garment. The color saturation is also beautiful.
Happy that you've enjoyed all of the yarn bases! Thank you for the review!
I've knit with several cashmere yarns, including the coveted Cardiff cashmere. They are all buttery soft, including ULA+LIA. The difference is that ULA+LIA is a more substantial feeling yarn. In my swatch pilling stress test, I could not get this yarn to pill and it barely even fuzzed. So not only do you have a luxuriously soft garment or accessory, you have something that will last. It was soft straight out of the skein, but after following the instructions for washing in warm soapy water with dish soap, it transformed. It bloomed so beautifully.
Thank you again Jessica!
I had never felt baby camel before buying this yarn, but you can bet I will be coming back for more. This yarn is luxuriously soft and incredibly beautiful. Like the other yarns I've tried from ULA+LIA, it feels sturdy as well, like a yarn that you can make a lasting garment with. I do a stress test with all of my swatches and there was absolutely no sign of pilling, nor is there pilling on my husband's fingerless gloves (he's worn then daily since I made them). It has a very subtle halo. I cannot recommend this yarn highly enough. Be sure to wash as instructed with warm, soapy water as this transforms the yarn from nice to deliciously soft.
Thank you Jessica, glad to hear you're enjoying the yarn!
I picked up several skeins of the yak on Kickstarter, and am just now getting around to knit it into a sweater. Sadly, the pattern I chose had a very loose neck, which doesn’t work for me. And it had cables, which didn’t work with the darkness of the yarn, and I kept changing my mind about features I wanted in the sweater. So I ended up ripping parts of the yoke 7 times. I’ve had wool yarn break down after ripping just a few times. But the yak still looks brand new, and it’s holding its shape beautifully, and it’s so soft and cozy! A total win!
Sorry to hear about all the frogging, but happy that the yarn held up well. Hope you can find another pattern that you're happy with!
I bought this yarn before I even learned to knit, and I think it may have been why I kept learning, even though knitting is difficult for me. Working with the yak, especially, was very satisfying in hand, a "scrumptious" experience. The yarn is springy, squeezy, very forgiving. As a scarf, it's wonderfully warm, allowing me to skip a jacket on cool days. I am very attached to it, like a pet 😆 . I'm glad I didn't have a good idea of the various prices of other brands of yarn, because I would've hesitated. But John's yarn is well worth the price, (particularly when you join the yearly Kickstarter and benefit from the discount). For me, it just doesn't compare to anything else.
I believe the fair & peaceful chain of acquisition, from herder to knitter, is part of what makes the yarn so pleasing. It seems to carry the positive energy, imprint of happy animal life and properly compensated herders all the way to your needle and even around your body.
Thank you Raele, lovely words! That's great you stuck with the craft and that the yarn was worth it in the end. Hopefully many more projects in the future!
Beautiful and shipped super fast!
Thank you! And as always, credit to my mom for getting everything in the mail quickly!
These socks are fantastic, granted they are natural fiber so they will shrink slightly with washing but they stretch right back out without losing elasticity. They are very warm even though they are thin which make them nice for certain shoes. Well worth the money.
Thanks Jake! I'll get at you when I'm home in a month or so to get some goods from your farm again
I was very excited to try this yarn out! I got the two skeins as ordered. It arrived quickly and undamaged. Also, the skeins upon arrive were great. However, I noticed as I untwisted my skeins for I can wash them with the recommended steps on the label, I noticed the blonde yarn was noticeably different. It looks like it as too tightly wounded when spun. So, it has more kinks/twists and no matter how many times I shake or untwist this manually they come right back. In addition, it also affected how it washed. The strands did not expand and/or relax like the other DK skein. Thus impacting the overall feel and drape of the yarn. The brown one is super soft and drapes beautifully! I can’t wait to start working with it. I just wish my blonde one came the same way.
[Update]: The owner addressed the problem promptly and solved the issue with this skein. It ended up a small portion of the yarn was over spun and it wasn’t caught before shipment. He sent me a replacement one swiftly and this one was perfect! The new blonde skein acts and feels just like my initial tan skein and I am excited to use it in the future! I already have a pattern for it.
Sorry about that! Just an area of a skein that got over twisted. I was happy to hear the replacement skein is up to our usual standards!
I've purchased many skeins of UlaLia yarn and have yet to be disappointed by any of them. They are all amazing!
Thank you Kate!
The color and feel of this yarn is amazing. Very pleased with the purchase
Glad to hear you're happy with it, thank you Mary!
Highest quality baby camel! Highly recommend it
Thank you April!
