I picked up several skeins of the yak on Kickstarter, and am just now getting around to knit it into a sweater. Sadly, the pattern I chose had a very loose neck, which doesn’t work for me. And it had cables, which didn’t work with the darkness of the yarn, and I kept changing my mind about features I wanted in the sweater. So I ended up ripping parts of the yoke 7 times. I’ve had wool yarn break down after ripping just a few times. But the yak still looks brand new, and it’s holding its shape beautifully, and it’s so soft and cozy! A total win!
I bought this yarn before I even learned to knit, and I think it may have been why I kept learning, even though knitting is difficult for me. Working with the yak, especially, was very satisfying in hand, a "scrumptious" experience. The yarn is springy, squeezy, very forgiving. As a scarf, it's wonderfully warm, allowing me to skip a jacket on cool days. I am very attached to it, like a pet 😆 . I'm glad I didn't have a good idea of the various prices of other brands of yarn, because I would've hesitated. But John's yarn is well worth the price, (particularly when you join the yearly Kickstarter and benefit from the discount). For me, it just doesn't compare to anything else.
I believe the fair & peaceful chain of acquisition, from herder to knitter, is part of what makes the yarn so pleasing. It seems to carry the positive energy, imprint of happy animal life and properly compensated herders all the way to your needle and even around your body.
I've purchased many skeins of UlaLia yarn and have yet to be disappointed by any of them. They are all amazing!
Thank you Kate!
Beautifully soft and well prepared! A joy to spin and blend.
Thank you, happy to hear you enjoyed the spinning fiber!
I bought this beanie for my husband, and he loves it. It's very soft and stretches easy. Hope it will protect from the wind too.
Lovely gift, I'm happy he likes it! I hope it's coming in handy now with the cooler weather.
